Marketing

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area:

I served as Communications Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area, helping this great organization to hone their message, revamp their website, write grants, and create a whole new class of marketing collateral that could be used to solicit both volunteers and donors.

This material was meant to be modular - we'd use the San Francisco County based materials there, the Contra Costa County based materials there (etc.), and the School and Site-based materials as appropriate. They have plenty of free space so that we could quickly add custom calls to action or relevant details to address specific potential donors or volunteers - allowing each packet of collateral could be quickly tailored to the intended readers.

Activa PR

It amazes me how few PR professionals have any idea how to get a reporter or editor's attention. Most press releases seem designed to be recycled instead of read. Activa PR brought me on board because they recognized that my experience as a working journalist could help them shape their pitches to get a reporter's attention.

Saybrook University

Saybrook University is the world's leading educational center for humanistic thought and practice, and I am privilidged to serve as their Senior Marketing and Communications Writer, working directly with the Vice-President of Marketing, the Vice-President of Admissions, and the Vice-President of Development. While at Saybrook I have played a critical role in overhauling the University's message and approach to marketing as it went through a major organizational transition. This included serving as the primary writer reworking their collateral material; redesigning their website; overseeing video shoots; and performing numerous internal communication duties. In addition, I write the University's public blog The Saybrook University Forum.
